The Commercial and Industrial Chamber of Florina, the Municipality of Amyntaio, the company LEVER Development Consultants, and the Environmental Organisation “Callisto” are going to organise two (2) informative events with the aim of promoting the “Brown Bear Quality Label” in companies in the area of the Municipalities of Amyntaio and Florina and informing them on the management practices in cases of bear appearances in areas of human activity or residence. The events will take place as follows:

  • Amyntaio, Friday, November 29, 2019, at 12:00 pm, Hall of the Cultural Centre of Amyntaio
  • Florina, Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at 05:00 pm, Hall of the Commercial and Industrial Chamber of Florina.

The LIFE AMYBEAR project is implemented since October 2016, and will be completed during 2021. It aims to improve the co-existence of man-bears in the region of Amyntaio and Florina and to inform them in terms of the added value of acquiring this Label in their products and services. The partnership of the LIFE AMYBEAR projects consists of the Municipality of Amyntaio, the Directorate of Forests of Florina of the Decentralised Afministration of Epirus-Western Macedonia and the environmental Organisation “Callisto”.

The aim of these events that shall take place in Amyntaio and Florina is to inform the companies about the benefits of receiving the “Brown Bear” label, its requirements (measures, practices) and the actions the companies should undertake in order to be awarded with the Label. The awarding of the “Brown Bear” Label to companies in the area of the Municipalities of Amyntaio and Florina will undertake the Commercial and Industrial Chamber of Florina. This awarding will contribute to the preserving the natural environment, promoting local cultural identity, imposing high quality standards on the products and services of the companies that shall receive the brand.

In addition, during the events the Environmental Organisation “Callisto” will present the management practices of human-bear interaction. Example of such practices are the use of electric fences and good livestock guarding dogs to avoid any bear damage to livestock, the tackling of the illegal use of poison baits, the operation of the Emergency Response Team for the bear (OJ 272/07-02-2014) and other relevant management practices and how they contribute to eliminate the problem of man-bear co-existence. Finally, anti-poison first aid kit and certificates of attendance (necessary during the process of the awarding of the “Brow Bear” Label) will be distributed.

The agenda of the events will be announced on the projects website (www.lifeamybear.eu), the social media accounts of the project (Facebook & Twitter) and in Local Media.
