Presentation of the “trails of coexistence” and the environmental education actions

In the framework of Action E5 action of the LIFE AMYBEAR project, two paths – a mountainous one and a lakeside nature one – were re-marked by the environmental organisation “Callisto”, proposing the routes to be used in an educational and informational way in the field.

As Mrs Gelastopoulou Efi and Nikisianis Nikos, collbaorators of “Callisto”, explained in an online press conference, “Trails of Coexistence” aim to inform students and visitors of the area about wildlife, local communities and their activities.

“The first trail of 3.8 km long, is from Asprogeia to Lechovo. The proposed route starts from the village’s square, continues to a small rural road crossing a variety of rural and forest habitats, which are brown bears’ habitat. Then we follow an old stone trail and enter the beech forest, which covers most of the route that ends at the recreation area of Profitis Ilias, above Lechovo, explained Mrs Gelastopoulou Efi.

The lakeside trail of about 3.5 km long, which is a tour of Lake Petra, was described by Mr Nikisianis Nikos and in particular, he pointed out the following: “Lake Petra has been included in the NATURA 2000, European Network of Protected Areas, due to its important habitats found on its shores and the rich bird fauna that finds refuge in them. In the area, more than 90 different species of birds have been observed.”

It is noted that the paths proposed will be used for environmental education for students in the last grades of primary and secondary education.
