On July 19, 2017, and around 3:00 am, another road accident was reported involving a bear as its victim on the new Amyntaio - Florina highway at the height of the "Kleidi" area in Amyntaio, in particular in the area of Orovos. To the unlucky animal, a young male, death came instantly due to internal bleeding caused by the violent conflict. Despite the damage to the car, the driver continued his journey and the traffic police was informed of the body of the animal by other drivers.

ARCTUROS and KALLISTO were informed by the Police and the Regional Unit of Florina. Representatives of Florina Forestry, ARCTUROS, KALLISTO, as well as the veterinarian of Florina Regional Unit, rushed to the spot. The official of the veterinary service examined the animal and identified the exact causes of death and the estimated time of the incident.

It is worth mentioning that it is the 12th accident with a bear casualty reported in this area of the local road network since 2003. ARCTUROS in 2012 highlighted the problem through a research program to protect the brown bear and its ecosystem with warning signs, special reflectors and a scientific study on the general flow of bears in the area. At the same time in 2016 the ARCTUROS scientific team held a working meeting with Egnatia SA concerning the treatment of road accidents involving bears in the area and the new planning of the road.

At the same time, in the framework of the LIFE AMYBear project "Improving the coexistence of man and bears in the municipality of Amyntaio", and following the recommendation of KALLISTO, the installation in 2018 of additional special signage and warning signs for drivers in the most dangerous parts of the national and provincial network of the Regional Unit of Florina with emphasis on the Municipality of Amyntaio. The Municipality of Amyntaion, the Decentralized Administration of Epirus-Western Macedonia, the Kallisto Environmental Organization and Lever Development Consultants SA take place in the project.

At the same time, in the framework of the LIFE AMYBear project "Improving the coexistence of man and bears in the municipality of Amyntaio", and following the recommendation of KALLISTO, the installation in 2018 of additional special signage and warning signs for drivers in the most dangerous parts of the national and provincial network of the Regional Unit of Florina with emphasis on the Municipality of Amyntaio. The Municipality of Amyntaion, the Decentralized Administration of Epirus-Western Macedonia, the Kallisto Environmental Organization and Lever Development Consultants SA take place in the project. However, until that time, this section of the new highway remains unrestrained, and although it is known that this area is an important natural passage for wildlife, many drivers continue to drive at high speeds, and as a result there is no reaction time when some wild animal happens to be on the road. KALLISTO and ARCTUROS call for measures:

1. To residents and visitors of the Kleidi region to be especially careful, especially during autumn and summer months where there is greater bear mobility, and always stay in the speed limit.
2. To Traffic Police in Florina for regular speed control of passing vehicles or the installation of an electronic control system and the imposition of the penalties prescribed by the law for drivers who do not respect the speed limit.
3. Towards the Traffic Police of Florina and the Regional Unit of Florina to provide for the immediate installation of a temporary signage and signaling system in the area to alert drivers of the speed limit.
